NEW COMPETITOR ANNOUNCED: GLENN SMITH

Glenn has confirmed his entry to the 3-hour endurance race this year and probably, the 1-hour race too. He will be driving his McLaren 650s GT3 alongside his long-time co-driver, John De Veth.

Glenn has been involved in motor racing for about 40 years now. He started in karts, then moved to speedway in TQ’s, built his own car and won 3 NZ Champs. Years later he moved to rallying for about 12 years and did a couple of Targa events until he moved to circuit racing. He has been doing circuit racing for 9 years in GTRNZ GT1 champ but he started doing some enduro events about 6 years ago when his mate John De Veth asked him to co-drive for him in his Super tourer Commodore.

Glenn has owned the McLaren’s for 2 years and this will be his third season racing the car. “The car has been great for the last 2 season and driving it just feels so good”, he said.

He is an experienced driver and knows all circuits well as he has raced around all North Island’s tracks many times. He said he is too busy working to worry about training and fitness, so he leaves the long stints to John 😂

He is excited to be teaming up with John De Veth this season, “we have been great mates for a few years and me, John, and all the crew get on really well and have a great time and that’s what’s it is all about”, Glenn said.

They have a solid crew supporting this project, Greg Sandilands is the crew T/Manager, head engineer is Maurice Ebbett, truck driver & tyre co-ordinates is Paul Hatcher, Brett Stratton is their mechanic and Shaun Van Beers, Nathan Strachan, Jason De Veth, Glenn Mason, Scotty Smith and Nathan Ralph are helping the team behind the scenes too.
Glenn is looking forward for the season to start, “John & myself are classed as am-am peering so will be looking at been the quickest of those teams and taking it to the elite-am teams”.
