Grant Aitken and Grant Liston will be contesting in the 1 hour endurance race this season driving a 20 year old Porsche 996 GT3 Cup Car – the first GT3 Cup Car to come to New Zealand in 2001 and one of Grant Aitken’s remaining race cars in which he recently won a wet race at Highlands Park.
Grant Aitken has been involved in motor racing for 50 years and has been driving this type of cars for 20 years now, “I think we make the oldest combined age and car team at 155 years”, he said.
He has previously won the SIERDC 1-hour series in 2010 and was runner up in the NIERDC 1 hour series in 2018. “With this older Porsche 996 GT3 Cup Car, our expectations are modest, our expectation is to Win Group 1”, Grant A. said.
Grant Liston is an experienced rally driver that has had some success at circuit racing. Highlights include a class win in the 1982 Benson & Hedges Saloon Car series with Dave Strong (Mini 1275GT), 1st Saloon car team x3 years at the Le Mans relay race, Pukekohe with Mark Parsons and Ralph Emson (Torana XU-1), various Nissan Mobil Wellington Street Races with Steve Willy (Corolla), Bill Fulford, Gray Mathias and Andrew Bagnall (Porsche 911 RS), 1st outright NSCC 6-hour Endurance with Miles Pope and Bill Farmer (BMW Supertourer), followed by a 2nd and a 4th outright with Dave Strong and Richard Gillies (Honda CRX). and 1st Production Class at the Hampton Downs 4 hour enduro with Grant Aitken in his Mitsi Evo 9. Leased that same car to win the 2009/2010 NZ Production Car Championship.

The team will be driving from Queenstown to Pukekohe and is looking forward to being back out on the track in the North Island.
