Round 3 Qualifying Report

Riberas takes first pole for Heart of Racing for the Season.

Todd and Rhys Bawden, Glenn Smith and John de Veth as well as the Heart of Racing’s Alex Riberas and Darren Kelly have taken pole positions for Round 3 of the North Island Endurance Series at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park.

Todd and Rhys Bawden took outright and class 1 pole of a 1:38.459 where they will line up alongside the Class 2 Pole Sitter Brendan Murphy and Brock Cooley of a 1:39.172 while Allan Sargeant will start P3 with a 1:39.402 in his Seat Leon Supercopa.

Marco Giltrap and Simon Evans have managed to score pole for Class 3 where they will start 7th Outright with a 1:42.419 Championship leaders Shane Parsons and Lindsay Lyons qualified 10th with a 1:43.657

Glen Smith and John de Veth will start the 1Hour race from Pole Position and from GT-A posting a laptime of 1:27.713 with Anthony Leighs setting his best qualifying position of the season to date with a 1:28.804. Sam Collins made a last minute entry in the 1Hour where he scored the GT-B pole and will start P3 in his newly acquired Marc Generation 2 Mustang setting a time of 1:29.5 while John Midgley will start P4 with a 1:29.5.

Brock Timperley and John McIntyre will start P5 and with the Class 1 Pole with a 1:29.912 with Gene Rollinson storming in Class 2 pole and 6th overall with a 1:30.7 and Lochlainn has taken his third GT-C pole of the season with a 1:30.9 where he will start 7th Overall.

In the 3Hour Alex Riberas finally took Heart of Racing’s first pole of the season setting a lap time of 1:23.436 however Andrew Fawcett was the one who got eyebroses rasising when he posted a 1:25.381 which was good enough to get him pole before Riberas demoted him to P2 in the dying stages of Qualifying.

Jono Lester took the Class 1 pole and will start 7th overall setting a laptime of 1:27.4 with Marco Giltrap and Simon Evans taking the GT-B pole of 1:31.5

Although Shane Helms’s Renault R.S.01 wasn’t ready intime Helms did role out his Audi TT VLN which got second in Overall in 2019. Greg Murphy will take co-driving duties where the pair took 9th position in Qualifying and second in Class 1 setting a laptime of 1:32.5 and  it was announced earlier this week that Murphy will partake in this year’s Bathurst 1000 as a Wildcard at Erebus Motorsport where he would be joined by Richie Stanaway.
