Glenn Smith and John de Veth made a late race pass on Anthony Leighs to take Round 3 of North Island Endurance Series for 1Hour Race with Geoff and Martin Short taking home third position.

Glenn Smith started the McLaren 650 S GT3 and led the early stages of the race Sam Collins was able to make a move on Anthony Leighs for second position. John Midgley would have a day to forget when he suffered at tyre failure in the first 10minutes and the David McAlpine/Kynan Yu Porsche 991 Gen 2 would be an early retirement.

The first safety car would be called soon after when Conal Dempsey’s Porsche had stop on the front straight but managed to get back going when the field got back racing.

The field would make the pitstop as a second safety car hadn’t yet appeared.  John McIntyre had managed to pass Lochlainn Fitzgerald-Symes for fourth position while Nick Archibald spun at turn 1.

However, a second safety car finally came when Sam Collins had got his Marc Gen2 Mustang stuck at turn 7. Leighs was able to get his pitstop done under safety car conditions and was set to break the Smith and de Veth dominance.

John de Veth was able to pass Leighs on the restart and take the win with Leighs second and Martin Short who had taken over from Geoff Short would finish third.

Brock Timperley and John McIntyre took Class 1 win and fourth overall with Gene Rollinson taking Class 2 win and finishing fifth overall Sean Kirkpatrick and James Webb would take their third straight GT-C win and taking sixth overall. Nick Ross would take GT-B win and seventh place overall.

Smith and de Veth lead the Championship on 190points with Leighs second on 180 points and John Midgley sits third on 176 points.
