Porsche front row lockout in wet North Island Endurance Series 1-Hour qualifying at Hampton Downs.

Wet conditions created a thrilling 1-Hour qualifying session for the North Island Endurance Series round at Hampton Downs, with the #910 Porsche 991.2 Cup MR of Heremana Malmezac taking pole position with a 1:12.440.

They’ll have familiar company alongside, with the #909s Porsche of Francois Beziac taking second, just three-tenths shy of top spot.

Luke Manson (Porsche 991.2) was the only other competitor to break below the 1:13.00 barrier, giving him a good starting position of third, next to the impressive BMW 318i being driven by Shaun Varney.

Nick Chester put in some solid laps in the new Marc GT, qualifying fifth overall in the car’s first competitive run.

He has the exceptional Highlands Porsche GT4RS for company on the third row, Grant Aitken putting together some good laps to break the 1:14 barrier on his ninth try.

The Steve Sullivan and Geoff Short pairing (Porsche 991 GT3 Cup) starts seventh on the grid, with Adam Julian (Porsche 997-2) completing 14 laps in the 20 minute session to qualify eighth.

The top 10 are rounded out by Grant Baguley (BMW E46) and Nick Ross (Nissan Altima).
