Scott Smith will be driving a Seat Leon Supercopa in the 2-hour race with co-driver Shaun van Beers this season. The pair previously raced in the series in 2017 in the 3 hour race, driving a Ford Falcon V8 Ute where they scored a podium at the final round in Pukekohe.
Scott used to race a Honda Civic EK in GTRNZ and ss2000 where he was runner up in the GT4 class of GTRNZ for the 2016-17 season.
Shaun van Beers has raced a Honda Integra and a Honda Civic in Honda Cup as well as the Classic Japanese Series. He also raced in the 2016 3hour series driving a Toyota Starlet.
Scott purchased the car form Neville Stowell from Timaru In April 2020, “It will be the first season racing the Seat Leon so the goal is to finish and anything after that is a bonus”, Scott said.
Shaun and Scott have Glenn Smiths’ team running their car and in return they will service for them, they are called RSD motorsport.
When asked about his training for the championship, Scott said “we knock off the pies and V’s a month or so out and do a few mountain bike ride…. nothing to serious we are here to enjoy the company and race cars”.
Both drivers have a large amount of experience driving around the North Island tracks and know the circuits very well. Keep an eye on the Seat Leon Supercopa this season, it will be interesting to see them in action in the new 2 hour race this year.
