The race history of Rod Gimblett’s V8 Super Tourer

In the Golden Holmes North Island Endurance Series many of our members have factory built race cars that have previous lives of racing in a professional series driven by a professional driver so let’s have a look at the life of the number 94 Holden Commodore VE V8 Super Tourer which was campaigned in last year series by car owner Rod Gimblett and Cameron Jones.

From 2012-2014 the car was raced in the V8 Super Tourers by Richard Moore for M3 Racing The first four rounds of the 2012 season was the sprint series were Moore would get a sole podium finish at Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon were Moore would finish 12^th for the sprint series.

The final three rounds for the 2012 season would all be endurance races were Owen Kelly would join Moore were the pair would finish 3^rd in the endurance section of the championship despite having a ordionary finish at the season finale held at Ruapuna.

Richard Moore would finish the 2013 season 4^th overall with a total of 4 podium finish through out the season were he would get his first win for the series at Hampton Downs were Tim Slade joined him for the endurance races.  

The 2014 season would only have four sprint rounds were Richard Moore improved to finish 3^rd for the series would five podium finishes and would take the last win of the season.

The reason for the shortened 2014 season was to get the series on New Zealand’s regular summer season which starts around October and finishes around April. The 2014/15 season the endurance races would he held first before the sprint races would follow in the new year. Tim Slade would partner Richard Moore for a second year in a row where the pair scored a race win at Hampton Downs and a further three podium finishes.

However the Super Tourer grid was quickly falling and M3 Racing decided not to contend the rest of the season were at the season finale the Super Tourers merge with NZV8’s.

Despite M3 Racing pulling out Richard Moore would make one last appearance in the new BNT V8 Touring Cars for the 2015/16 season at Round 3 at Hampton Downs before Rod Gimblett purchased the car in 2016.

Gimblet first contested the car in 2016/17 Tradezone GT2 before stepping up to GT1 for the 2017/18 season finishing 3^rd . Rod Gimblett first got his taste for endurance racing doing the Speedworks Rush Hour before contesting the final round of the 2018 Eneos North Island Endurance series finishing 5^th overall in the 1Hour race.

Gimblett and Cameron Jones contested two rounds 2019 Eneos North Island Endurance Series after a DNF at the Series opener at Taupo the pair finished third at the Pukekohe 3Hour.

That cat has not been raced since then we may see Rod Gimblett and Cameron Jones contest the entire 3Hour Series for the 2020 season and that is the race history of the number 94 Holden Commodore VE V8 Super Tourer owned by Rod Gimblett.
